On Monday afternoon, 2/9/1432 AH (August 2, 2011 AD), a celebration was held at the Embassy of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Damascus to commemorate the arrival of a generous donation of 424 tons of Saudi dates, which are being distributed through the World Food Program in Syria. The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Ambassador Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Aifan and the Country Director of the World Food Program in Damascus, Mr. Muhannad Hadi. A number of embassy and WFP officials and embassy staff also participated, along with a select group of journalists and media representatives. This donation comes within the framework of a major humanitarian effort by the Kingdom, which includes the distribution of large quantities of dates, amounting to 4,000 tons, to several countries around the world. His Excellency the Ambassador expressed his happiness that the arrival of the grant from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques coincided with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, and his belief that its distribution in many Syrian governorates will contribute to alleviating much of the suffering of those who deserve it, who receive it through two World Food Programme projects: the school feeding project and the urgent response project to the drought situation in the northeastern regions.
